  16. <p>     IMPRISONED. Bernhard Goetz, 41, the so-called Subway
  17. Vigilante who shot four black youths in New York City in
  18. December 1984; for unlawfully possessing a weapon; under
  19. protective custody in the city's Rikers Island jail. Goetz, who
  20. claimed that he was about to be robbed, was acquitted in 1987 of
  21. attempted murder but was convicted of illegal gun possession.
  22. After appeal he was resentenced to one year. He could be
  23. paroled in 51 days.
